"When we seek to discover the best in others, we somehow bring out the best in ourselves." - William Arthur Ward

Never have I found this to be more true than now.  After several relationships that didn't work out the way we had both hoped, a strained relationship with my parents for years, and a sometimes contentious relationship with people at work, it finally hit home that I was at the root of the problem.  Mind you I don't have enemies everywhere.  In fact, I don't believe I have any enemies at all, but I was definitely not focusing on the best in others, which negatively affected my relationships in all aspects of life.

This reminder caught me at a time when I'm several months into re-examining my past, current, and future relationships. In fact, I've noticed that in the last two weeks especially, where I've gone out of my way to highlight some of the best qualities of those around me.

For example, while at lunch with a coworker from another team last week, we began talking about work things, and instead of falling into the trap about complaining about others as I had in the past, I proceeded to demonstrate why I appreciated my teammates so much, and how despite everyone's flaws, they bring solid virtues to the department.  Or how the topic of my an ex came up, and how I had moved past any bitterness and unfounded critiques, to understanding why things may have turned out the way they did, while emphasizing the good qualities they brought to the table.  I've gone on to explain to a coworker why my team at work is awesome.

This all culminates in being a better, happier version of myself.  Have you been a hater like me?  If so, share what you've hated on, and what good qualities that other person possess.  If you can't think of any good qualities, try to put yourself in their shoes and share why you think they may have acted a certain way.

If you've read this far, thank you!  I really appreciate it and hope you can get something out of these quotes I find also!
